Fit me in

So I had my first fitting at I Do I Do and was very happy to find out I needed very minimal changes to my dress. Just a little tuck and nip to keep my strapless top close my chest and hemming. But also the bustle. I had not thought at all about the bustle. But the first one they showed me I loved- the American bustle. It’s the one where it basically gets pinned to your butt, very romantic. Natalie is getting the French bustle which is tucked under. And Nat’s dress is on it’s way here to DC as we speak because we had to cancel our trip to Florida after our dear kitty ended up in the hospital for a few days and needs some super TLC(oh, we are such lesbians).

FYI, book your alterations person waaaay in advance. I had no idea that it was this hard to find someone to alter Nat’s dress when you don’t have a store(her dress was bought in FL and is being shipped to DC). So we have to go with an independent one and it seems everyone is booked.

the bustle!

And our only bridesmaid, Lauren, getting her vintage va va voom dress fitted.

Little Zee is our cat(We did NOT name him)- he has a heart murmur, renal failure, and pancreatitis. Plus three legs. So when he started acting funny we took him on in to my hospital, he ended up staying for a few days scaring us to death with his acute renal failure(hopefully not end stage!!!). So say a kitty prayer for Little to get all better.

Oh boy, now this has got to be the ultimate guide to actually wearing a drop veil. I looked everywhere for info & photos of actually pulling this off…and without further ado:

sources: bio, knottie question, and a whole lot of google.

the drop veil pulled backoff face

great view of pins attached to head

Knottie Msdragon used a clear comb

a back view of a comb in a drop veil

a pulled back view of a drop veil attached with hat pins

with it over her face

Let’s here it for my dress store

Guess which store was voted best bridal salon in DC? That’s right, I do I do!

I totally concur. Good job I Do I Do, you totally deserve the award.

Me in the store. I did not know about it until going to a mac store on the same street- which explains my sweatshirt.

Hellooo? Killer prices. Killer staff. They saved my a$$ when my first dress got ruined by water. They were amazing. Thinking of my experience makes me misty eyed because I loved them so much.

Update: I ordered the drop veil to try on. I just got the email of estimated shipping date- July 27th. Uhoh. I don’t know if this is a good idea- I don’t know if I have time to try it and THEN order the custom veil.

Should I just order the custom veil now and cancel the regular veil since I want a specific length? Ekk. I’m realizing I have VERY little time left.

So now I have a much more ornate dress and need a simpler veil. I can finally justify a drop veil! It’s basically a giant piece of tulle over you but it looks so romantic and soft- and no poof. So I will not look like a lemon meringue pie.

Here are some examples:

I’m planning on ordering a custom veil from Veil Shop(for length)but to get a good look at what they will look like on I’m ordering 2 non custom ones and then returning them when I get a feel for what I like. They have an awesome return policy and are super helpful already(I had to already ask questions!).

I’m so excited for them to arrive.

So panic set in on Thursday. I was not happy with the idea of paying so much for a possible fix for my wedding dress. I knew from calling around that unless the wedding dress was in stock, bridal salons could not get a new dress to me by my wedding. And if they did have it in stock, ohhhh the rush charges.

So I went with my gut. I went back to I do I do in Gaithersburg MD. They were the place who I bought my veil from and were ubber nice.

So going in Natalie was iffy and I only had my first dress dancing through my head. So we tried on 10 dresses. Most were consignment because I was nervous about timing of getting a dress. What do you know but the first dress I tried on I fell in love. It’s gorgeous. Flowy and organic like the first but whoa, did I ever envision myself with beading? No. Is that what I was all over the dress? Yes. Do I loveeeee it? YES!

And I could not beat the price. Pssst, it was $500 with tax. I took it home that day. My stress about the stupid water stain melted away. And I think the wedding fairy gown must have been blessing me because I then got a call from a person who goes to my synagogue about a cleaner who also goes to our synagogue. He is currently cleaning my first dress for…wait for it….wait for it….under $200. Hells yes! It may shrink/not look 100% though so I’m very very happy I have my second dress.

So currently:

First dress, $400 dress + $200 cleaning = $600 for the dress I’m going to wear when we go to CA and get married(it’s official, we are going to California to get married in the winter)

Second dress, $500 + $? for alterations(no more than $250) = $? the official wedding dress of my dreams

The second dress everyone is MORE happy with because it’s much more formal and more ‘weddingy’. And I have my first dress for our day after photo session and our trip to CA to get legally married. I never ever thought I would be a 2 dress bride(please commence vomiting) but that’s how the cookie crumbled. I wanted to not have to stress in 3 weeks about a shrunk or slightly still spotted dress, so I went with my gut and ended up happier than ever.
