I knew that the diamond industry had a problem with illegal diamonds and the fact that African nations are at constant war at each other over these much sought after gems. But I watched a documentary on diamonds last night and just sat open mouthed the whole time. Countries admitting that 60% of diamonds are smuggled out of their country meaning that many diamonds are going into our market with questionable and most likely violent origins.  The diamond industry itself admitting that maybe 3% of diamonds out there in the USA market are illegal/blood diamonds. So if companies are admitting that high a percent, I can’t imagine what it really is.

So I decided until the diamond industry corrects the slack laws and disregard of peoples lives in Africa, I’m only going to buy specifically conflict free diamonds/gold.

you could always get a canadian diamond. http://www.charmdiamondcentres.com/ has them. They come from Nunavut, I believe.
