I am beyond sick. Most of you know I have celiac disease- well we think I got a whopping dose of gluten and am now sick as a dog.
After a day of being violently ill I now have the next week to look forward to:
-inability to think, like my mind is molasses
-hallucinations(already had one! yay for fans attacking me in the bedroom)
-inability to keep anything down(oh that ones a check)
-emotions going up and down, random crying, depression(check check and check, already burst into tears after Natalie told me to calm down)
And I now take my mental symptoms as serious as my physical. 3 years ago I got a good dose of gluten and let it ride for 3 days. On the 4th day I wanted so badly to go out I got into my car and within 10 feet ran into 2 non moving objects(another car and a meter). I cried, parked, and called Natalie to pick me up. So I now don’t even take the chance and do nothing but 5-7 days as I literally can’t.
But today is the first day I’ll miss work. And I can’t miss work. Like, I’m afraid I’ll lose my job. So I’m going but literally don’t have the mental capacity to drive. So I’m really nervous I’ll royally fuck something up. But whatever. I feel so sick I don’t care.

So I should let you guys know that the bridal store in Georgetown, Carines Bridal Atelier, is having a sample sale. Yay for those of you who want to shell out $3000 for a designer dress that was $6000. But still, looking at those after prices still made my stomach twist and shout. But they are lovely. I’m just not so sure they are ‘better’ than a $1,000 dress besides the design. I edited a wedding last week were this bride had a lovely, obviously $$$ dress. But by the end of the night, the end of her dress ripped off(the lace overlay). I would be at the bridal store the next day yelling. But in terms of design, they are top notch.
So panic set in on Thursday. I was not happy with the idea of paying so much for a possible fix for my wedding dress. I knew from calling around that unless the wedding dress was in stock, bridal salons could not get a new dress to me by my wedding. And if they did have it in stock, ohhhh the rush charges.
So I went with my gut. I went back to I do I do in Gaithersburg MD. They were the place who I bought my veil from and were ubber nice.
So going in Natalie was iffy and I only had my first dress dancing through my head. So we tried on 10 dresses. Most were consignment because I was nervous about timing of getting a dress. What do you know but the first dress I tried on I fell in love. It’s gorgeous. Flowy and organic like the first but whoa, did I ever envision myself with beading? No. Is that what I was all over the dress? Yes. Do I loveeeee it? YES!
And I could not beat the price. Pssst, it was $500 with tax. I took it home that day. My stress about the stupid water stain melted away. And I think the wedding fairy gown must have been blessing me because I then got a call from a person who goes to my synagogue about a cleaner who also goes to our synagogue. He is currently cleaning my first dress for…wait for it….wait for it….under $200. Hells yes! It may shrink/not look 100% though so I’m very very happy I have my second dress.
First dress, $400 dress + $200 cleaning = $600 for the dress I’m going to wear when we go to CA and get married(it’s official, we are going to California to get married in the winter)
Second dress, $500 + $? for alterations(no more than $250) = $? the official wedding dress of my dreams
The second dress everyone is MORE happy with because it’s much more formal and more ‘weddingy’. And I have my first dress for our day after photo session and our trip to CA to get legally married. I never ever thought I would be a 2 dress bride(please commence vomiting) but that’s how the cookie crumbled. I wanted to not have to stress in 3 weeks about a shrunk or slightly still spotted dress, so I went with my gut and ended up happier than ever.

We met with Helen Olivia last week and talked about flowers. I knew what I wanted: big, fluffy, and red. But no peonies as they are out of season But berries and texture. Natalie wanted blue and red but reeeeally wanted ranculus but of course, they are out of season. So orchids were next up.
Here’s the pictures I showed the florist for inspiration:

I went to NYC for my bday this weekend with my favorite people: Natalie, Marie and Emma. We had a blast Friday night and Saturday.
Sunday was my bday so I wanted to visit paper presentations, the store I bought my wedding invites, in person. They say on their website they have a lot more. And they did!
Stamps, punches, more paper. I even got a pack of deep brown paper embossed with a wood grain *fans self* it was paper heaven. They also had packs of tissue paper which I had desperately been seeking in 25 packs- so blue, red and brown tissue paper was slipped into my bag for our pom poms.
I really like all the examples they have on display using their paper products in store. I was jealous I had not seen it before because it does give you great ideas.
And did I mention they are sooooo cheap compared to Paper Source? Like, really really cheap? Like, I got giddy sneaking behind Paper Sources back with a fabu mistress?
Paper presentations in my hot hot mistress. Yes she is.

Mini Crisis. The cleaning for the stain on my gown costs $200 more than the gown cost!! EKKK. I had no idea it would cost soooo much money. $600 for a stain?
So now I’m trying to figure out what to do. New cheap dress? Cover the stain? Cough up the money and clean it? I’m so torn.
Tonight I’m going to try on the dress and post a picture. This is no fun.

I finally ordered the paper for our invitations. That’s right! I made a freakin decision on my paper products. I must say this has been the hardest decision and I am sure hardly anyone will notice the million choices I made but I must say I drool over invitations all the time. So this was super important to me.
We have not been successful planting money trees so instead of paper source, which cost so much money, we went with paper presentations dot com. I ordered paper from them before and love their stuff so I’m sure I’ll be happy with the paper.
Here’s a break down of our bill to help you other brides to know what to expect:
I had originally salivated over letterpress invitations(and still am a little sad I can’t have them). Just the invitation part of the letterpress invitations was going to cost us $650. Now, once I add in the gocco ink, bulbs, screens, ribbon, punch, stamps and any extras I’m sure it will add up to at least $250. But $250 in contrast to what would be $750 minimum for the letterpress invitations with no gatefold enclosure…I think you can see why I went with gocco invitations. Plus, please, I’m a control freak with paper. If I can do it myself, I want to. Here’s what the coco gatefold invites look like(a graphic from the company, not my real invites):
I hemmed and hawed over whether I should have 2 pieces of paper inside, one accenting the other like the pictures. But that’s more paper! Less eco friendly. And not helping my goal of carbon neutrality. So I kicked my creative side and let my eco side win. One piece. No accent.
I am also doing a little ribbon enclosure to hold the invitation together. I am thinking (oh god) of gocco’ng the ribbon with a wood grain pattern because the only wood grain ribbon I can find is silver or other colors. Then a little circle holding the ribbon together with the pattern I used for the STD’s.
As for RSVP cards, I again let my eco side win and we are having postcards. Yay for the trees. A little secret(and don’t you tell Marie) is that for close friends and family the little yes/no bubbles will go:
-Yes, I love me some queers
-No I’m liberal but not that liberal
I figured doing that for the entire wedding guest list might ruffle some feathers so just a select few will receive that.

So to cheer me up, Natalie and I went to two bridal stores today. Not only did we find both our veils(!), we got the most amazing customer care ever. I brought my dress in a bag to show the veil store the color of my dress. To my horror, when we looked closely at the dress we noticed a huge huge stain.
A stain that had not been there 3 weeks ago when I tried it on. It was a giant water stain. I guess our shitty rental house had a leak in the closet we never noticed but the stain was on the bag and on the silk dress. When the sales lady looked at it, she immediately took it to the back to her manager even though the dress was not theirs. I started getting misty eyed that my dress would never be the same and it was ruined. I did not have a freak out but started getting upset I would need a new dress. The manager came out and said she wished she could spot clean it but was afraid it would do more harm and gave me the name and number of the guy who cleans their top of the line silk dresses. I felt immediately relieved and so taken care of!! They totally saved my day. I will gush about my veil later but am going to this cleaner ASAP.
Well, I’m, not going. Natalie’s going. Because even though I didn’t freak out and was pretty damn calm, I think explaining that my wedding dress has a huge water stain to the stain cleaner may just make me cry. This is totally unexpected and from what the manager said, a huge expense(please god don’t be more than $300). But whatever happens, I’m going to look amazing on my wedding day, so why worry?
