I’m back. And doooone with my thesis- woot! I hung Monday, have critique Tuesday and my opening is tomorrow night. I love love love how is came out and am so happy to finally have it done, up, and people seeing it. All this means I’m so close to the end of art school- which is so exciting and sad at the same time :/

But in the middle of all this the awesome necklace I posted about sold but the etsy owner agreed to show me some similar stuff. The only problem now? Two gorgeous necklaces to choose from!! She originally made this one for me:

Which I loooooooooooooove. The only thing was I wanted some stone with more color.

Then she made this smashing one.

I have to say I’m kinda siding with the red one and so is Lauren, my made of honor/best friend. But now Kate(my future mum in law) likes the clear one, ha! She says it’s more ‘formal’.  I think she’s worried I don’t look very formal since my dress is so plain and simple.

So which to get?? Comment below to help me out. Again! hehe

And check out her shop, she updated with a bunch of new stuff.

Speaking of my love of vintage hair/vintage makeup/style…you gotta love the style of Gwen Stefani. Her wedding dress with pink on the bottom? I love that. Her sleek hair and makeup would be easy to copy for your wedding day and be a classic. So you don’t look back and think, “Holy shit, why is my hair the size of China??” And you can save face with your kids too.

I even loved her in th 90’s when she rocked the pink hair and braces. The blunt bangs maaaay have been a bad choice but she really did go all out.

DO NOT forget. Paper source wedding fest this sunday. I went last year and was slightly overwhelmed because I went late and there was a ton of people. Go early. Snap pictures. Ask questions. The classes are not nearly as interesting as the displays of different cards, invites, RSVP, etc.

Yes, I am obsessed with 1940’s hair. I have been for about 2 years now. And the best place to find this stuff? Vintage Hair Community on LJ. Perfect for you ladies planning a vintage glam theme. Rolls, pincurls, poof pomps and hot bangs.

It took a post from Something Old Something New to let me know it’s Freedom to Marry week! How could I miss this??

Legally, Natalie and I will not be able to get married. We could drive our butts up to MA, but none of the rights would transfer down here. So we will be registering downtown as domestic partners(ugh, I hate that phrase!). Which means we get some rights, but not nearly as many rights as Brittany Spears and the dude she married for an hour had for that hour. So that means, because we want to have children, we will have to pay $$$ to a lawyer to have some contracts drawn up to have some more, but again, not nearly all the rights married couples have.

I really really believe and pray by the time we have kids marriage will be legal. Federal marriage. So I could get social security, file joint taxes, not worry about loosing our house if one of us died and couldn’t pay the taxes. I want my kids to feel safe. I want to feel safe.

necklace

So my wedding dress is somewhat plain. It’s not poofy. No sparkle. No million pounds of tulle. And thats why I love it, but I do want to add a little color. It also has a very deep V neck.

So I though, why not a necklace? With blue or red to go with our colors? And it must be gold because it’s much more ‘greeky’ which is very my dress. So I have been looking and looking on etsy and not. And I THINK I found the necklace I desire. I love it. Really adore it. But is it very ‘bridal’? I’m also somewhat hesitant because it’s not cheap, which I understand because of the materials, like pearls n such.

I’m terrified someone will buy it before I make up my mind. And then I’ll just kick myself. Also, is 18inches long? Like, will it be good for settling into my v neck plunge?

Ketubah

Ok all you modern lesbians. I found your ketubah. Really, I did. If I had not just put my deposit down for a custom done ketubah, I would be handing my credit card over as we speak to this awesome artist. New Ketubah is modern, cool, and just gorgeous. And she allows you to put in your own custom test for a minimal amount of money. Because no one wants those ‘reform’ or ‘conservative’ texts(and hey! where is the reconstruction text!!) but some are pretty open ended in terms of wording for same-sex couples. Meet with your Rabbi and hash it out. We did today…and I have to say if your in the DC area and not being married by Rabbi Fred of Adat Shalom, your missing out on the most queer/feminist/eco educated Rabbi ever. Anyway, back to the ketubahs, these are finally something you feel good about hanging on your wall. Not some old 50’s jewish ‘artist’ who wears cat sweaters and weird glasses.  You want fresh and modern. And by golly, I found it.

I’m an Auntie! Miss Shyai was born and I’m officially an aunt.  Which means I have to get it the cutest onesie on the planet. Maybe she’ll wear it for the wedding with a cute tutu skirt. I can’t think of anything tackier. Except maybe a rainbow tutu- now that’s even better.

loveaunts_l.jpg

Speaking of which, WHY oh WHY are there rainbow wedding rings? Who wears those pieces of horrible tackiness. They are so bad and I see them in every gay magazine. Honestly, as a gay community, we need to come together and burn those things. I’m looking at you lesbians. I don’t think I would spot those rings on any self respecting gay man’s hand. Ever. I know I know, you want it to match your rainbow eyebrow ring but c’mon, for your wedding?? Really???
